Our monitoring system checks each server every 30 seconds 24/7. It checks smtp, pop3, FTP, mySQL, http, server load, and much more. This way we know of problems before they affect your site. This is how we maintain our 99.9% uptime.  

Email Accounts
Each hosting package comes with unlimited POP3 email accounts. You can read your email through our web mail system, Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express etc..

True Domain Name
You can use yourdomain.com or your static IP address to access your web site. We support all international domains. Your site will be accessible with or without the www. So www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com will open your site.

Storage
Disc storage refers to the amount of server disc storage your account is allocated. The space is used to store your HTML files, graphics, audio/video files and all other files that make up your web site.

Hits /Transfer
A hit is any request the web server receives. Each time a HTML file, graphic file or any other element on your web page is loaded, data transfer is generated. We do not limit the number of hits you can receive. The only limit is total transfer usage. 1000 hits to a 1KB file will result in 1000KB (.97MB) of actual transfer usage. 1000 hits to a 10KB file will result in 10000KB (9.76MB)of actual transfer usage.

File Manager
The file manager included in the online control panel is a simple, yet effective and efficient way of accessing, editing, and modifying files on your site.

Mailing List
Mailing lists provide a convenient way to send mail to multiple recipients and to provide a medium for your site's visitor's to discuss relevant topics over email, without them needing to know more than one address.

Auto Responders
Auto responders are forwarding addresses with one difference, for every email delivered to them, they will automatically return an email to the sender with no action on your part.

Email Aliases/Forwards
A forward address is an email address without a mailbox. Mail received by this address will be forwarded on to the email address you associate with it. The primary upshot of this is to allow you to receive email @yourdomain.com without creating another POP mailbox to manage; incoming mail can instead be forwarded on to your existing mailbox, most likely the one you received from your dial up internet service provider or your address at your place of business but it could be any email address.

Email Blockers
Your mailbox is like a telephone line, you have the right to privacy and be free from harassing callers. Similarly there are people on the internet you do not wish to receive e-mail from. Entering their address into your blockers list will cause the mail server to quietly delete e-mail received from these addresses, as though it had never been received.

MySQL Databases
The basis of the SQL language is the concept of storing data in tables of related information, and retrieving this data according to certain criteria -
"show all inventory categories with less than ten units remaining"
"show all accounts whose payment is due in the next week"
This data could be customer accounts, product information, order records; the SQL language is extremely flexible in the kind of data that can be expressed and contained by it. There are many books and online tutorials for the SQL language - its popularity as a business tool is unmatched. If you are looking to create online commerce solutions, then the use of SQL services will likely be a high priority. Much of the work involved in a commerce site can be accomplished through the use of the SQL language, and the speed and security of data stored in SQL databases fulfills much of the criteria of a successful commerce site.

Subdomains
You can setup subdomains (sales.yourdomain.com) quickly and easily using your online control panel. This is powerful when used in combination with the 50FTP accounts included in the professional account.

Virtual FTP Accounts
File Transfer Protocol or the method used to "upload" your web site files to storage space on our network. You have unlimited access to your domain via FTP 24 hours a day to setup, change and manipulate your web site. With the professional account you can setup ftp accounts for different users. This will allow them to upload files wile being restricted to the ftp account you setup.

Web Mail System
The control panel includes functionality for reading e-mail received by your POP mailboxes over the web, without an e-mail client.

Custom Error Pages
'404 Error not found' - not only is this sight disheartening, its downright unhelpful. We all want to make our web sites accessible to our visitors, and custom error documents are one way to help achieve this. Instead of the dreaded '404' message, you can instead have the web server display a page that gives a set of links to major areas of your site, to get your visitors back on track. The same can be set up for other types of errors - pages that have moved, or when a login to a protected directory is denied. All of these pages can be edited in real time using your Control Panel.

Pre-Configured Java/CGI
Pre-configured programs include: Web forum, chat room, shopping cart, CGI wrapper, random HTML, guest book, counter, clock, countdown, CGI email, form mail clone, search engine and banner rotator.

Perl 5, TCL, C++, Python
Various types of scripting languages/shells that are installed on SurfBest Hosting accounts.

Sever Side Includes (SSI)
The ability to include files from the server inside an HTML document by placing tags in the HTML file that link to those files. Using server-side includes makes it unnecessary to include multiple copies of the same information in the HTML file, and make it easier to work with frequently-updated information.

Full CGI Access
Directory setup with special permissions to auto-execute user-defined scripts. CGI is used to accomplish tasks which are not supported by basic HTML such as a hit counter or guest book. You may use this directory to execute any cgi-script you write or ones that are already pre-written for you. The directory is specially designed for scripts that end in .pl as scripts that end in .cgi will execute from any directory within your web space.

PHP4.0.6 Support
PHP is a server-side scripting language, with built in methods to access database services though SQL, and is a powerful alternative to CGI application for processing data before it is viewed by your sites visitors.

SSL Secure Server
Any sensitive information such as credit card information that can be encrypted before transmission thought a web browser. SSL will light up the pad lock in your customer's browser, greatly increasing customer trust when buying from your site. Also included with your account is a shared thawte server certificate. Thawte is the most well known and trusted certificate provider.

SSH Secure Shell
Allows you to remotely connect to other computers on the internet thought a series of RSA encrypted keys and is much like telnet in that it is mostly command line.

Telnet/Command line Access
A terminal emulation protocol that lets a user log in remotely to other computers on the internet; it has a command line interface. Originally developed for ARP Anet, Telnet runs on top of the TCP/IP protocol.

Internal Search Engine
This allows visitors to your site to search information on your site.

Submit to Major Search Engines
Included in your control panel is a search engine submission utility that will submit your site to the top search engines.

Dedicated IP Address
The numerical address of your site (i.e. 66.96.215.100). With a dedicated IP address you can view your web site with http://IPAddress or with http://www.yourdomain.com. With a shared IP address you can access your site with http://IPAddress/~username or http://yourdomain.com. *Available only on Advanced or Professional Hosting Plans

Password Protected Directories
Protected directories within your web site so that only approved user names and passwords can gain access.

Front Page 2002-97
Front Page extensions allow the use of all Microsoft Front Page features. Activation of Front Page extensions doesn't disable FTP access.

Detailed Site Statistics
This is an extended logging feature that documents where each visitor to your site came from. You will know if they found you through a search engine or a web site link. This is great for managing a advertising campaign.

Access To Raw Logs
These are the text logs showing every hit to your site and what the user downloaded, accessed or viewed. For statistical analysis you can download these to compile on your local machine in programs like Web Trends or other site analysis programs.

Anonymous FTP
If you've ever downloaded a file from the internet, chances are you've used anonymous FTP. The 'anonymous' part indicates that you don't need to have an account on the system you're receiving the file from - its a public file server. Offering a public file server on your own site has many strong points in its favor - although you can make files available on your web site through HTTP ftp is much faster and more reliable than HTTP for transferring files, and has additional features such as the ability to resume a failed download. Used correctly, anonymous FTP can become another valuable part of your site design

We provide full support for RealMedia technology from RealNetworks to stream audio and video from your web site. Streaming allows your users to see or hear your multimedia files without having to download them to their local PCs first.
